IMPORTANCE OF GUIDANCE COUNSELING in SCHOOL
By: Venus F. Paclibare-TI
Franza ES
Schools are thought to be the second home in nurturing young minds. Here, pupils are given the opportunity to learn the basics, such as the intellectual, physical, psycho-social, spiritual, and other aspects in order to overcome the diverse challenges in life. Hence, these must be properly-instilled to the pupils.
As the pupils learn the fundamentals, they faced common problems and experiences that might even affect their personalities. These problems are usually caused by several factors that drive-in pupils learning progress. Personal problems usually arise at home, community and even school were the pupils commonly experienced familiar problems like inter-personal relationships with the family members, bullying by their classmates, misbehaviors ,cheating, current economic status, psychological pressures and many others. Other problem like their academic status is even-influenced by pupils’ challenges in their intellectual, physical and social attitudes.
In response, the ever-growing number of social, economic and family problems has resulted in an increased need for school guidance and counseling services or the SGC services.
These diverse problems commonly experienced by pupils could be alleviated or decreased by proper/appropriate guidance and counseling by the school personnel specifically teachers, counselors and even the principal. Teachers play a very important role in developing pupils interpersonal, intellectual and psychosocial skills. From the time pupils started learning the fundamentals, teachers are tasked to provide their pupils the necessities such as the need to understand their specific individual differences. They are the one who are entrusted to protect the pupils in their intellectual difficulties and overcome the challenges pupils might experienced as they faced all these problems. Teachers are not only charged to render intellectual services but they are also given the role to develop and practice the appropriate behavior pupils are expected to possess. Thus, in general teachers need to be equipped in certain aspects of guidance and counseling services necessary for the pupils. Complementary to these the teachers need to employ with their pupils is the role of the elementary school principals as guidance and counseling implementers. The success of the guidance and counseling services mostly depend on the good governance of the administrator specifically on the basis of planning, assessment, policies, etc., the SGC services should employ. Thus, with the concerted efforts of teachers, guidance counselors and principals, the mission and vision of the GSC services could be properly- implemented.
For guidance to be effective a sense of teamwork and cooperation must exist between teachers, principals’ and counselors. Therefore, it is imperative that teacher, principals and counselors be aware of and comprehends the perceptions that each holds for the others. Through that awareness and understanding the goals of guidance can be met.

Dynamic Teacher
By: Venus f. Paclibare-TI

The characteristic s of a teacher often determine the dynamics of school community and the academic outcomes of school. When a school lacks effective leadership, negligible learning takes place. Teachers, must provide strong characteristic that sets a tone for the daily operation of the school community. In the absence of such leadership, discipline breaks down, academics falter, and a scene of organized chaos reigns. Teacher , is not just about walking the halls and telling pupils to “tuck-in their shirts”. Rather , it is about dynamic modelling that encourages collegiality and promote excellence in the school in every aspect.
Dynamic teachers enter a classroom not to find problems but to offer solutions, to share recommendation, to encourage and to affirm good performance with their colleagues. Dynamic teachers welcome criticism and address it positively. Excellent teachers encourage excellence among their students while promoting the spirit of collaboration. Such teacher, are able to identify emerging issues and problems swiftly deal with them in a positive approach.

My Personal Perception on K to 12

A major change in our country’s educational landscape is about to unfold the Department of Education implements the K to 12 curriculum this school year. Students will have to undergo a new system of education which seek to provide a quality 12 year basic education program for Filipinos.
Proponent of the program claim that there is an urgent need to enhance the quality of basic education in our country as shown by the results of the test and the comparative disadvantage of the Philippines with the other countries.
So, what will the changes in the K +12 ? The program require all incoming students to enroll into or more years of basic education . Thus, K to 12system will eventually include the kindergarten, the same six years of elementary , four years of junior highschool and 2 years for senior highschool. This is to produce quality graduates ready for employment.
I personally believe that the k to 12 education in the Phil. Would uplift the quality of life of the Filipino people. Nothing is impossible when we persevere.
There maybe plenty of problems in this K to 12 program . But as long as we open our minds to change and take it positively, we will definitely attain out most aspired educational standards which will will play a great role in our country’s development and will eventally uplift us from poverty.

GULAYAN SA PAARALAN
by: LUZVIMINDA R. PADILLA/Bantug ES
“Rooty” (Gabi) at “Legumes”( Sitaw).
Na si G. Nilo R. What do we mean by teacher?
By: Irene D. Andaya-TI
Franza ES
According to Merriam Webster , teacher is a noun that pertains to someone who teaches or one whose occupation is to instruct . The word is synonymous to educator, educationist m instructor, pedagogue and preceptor. Just what is the meaning of the word “Teacher “to me ?
My own definition of a teacher is synonymous to lesson plan, classroom management; projects, quizzes, recitation, assignments and a lot more word. These are few scribbles that I can think of in defining the word.
Teaching is not an occupation . It is a vocation that we must love and value. Teaching is not a lucrative job. It is sacrifice and hard work ;that is, always underpaid and underrated. A teacher ‘s task does not end inside the classroom. It is not limited to teaching the pupils based on the lesson plan. It is a continuous labor. She needs to prepare lesson plan everyday; she needs to steal few hours from households chores to check the test papers of her students; and extends an extra hour to visit students who are absent.
Most especially, we must not forget that teachers are also humans .They have limitations their temper snaps, too. They have humans who have feelings. They also prone to committing mistakes. If they commit mistakes, do not judge them at once. They also need to be understood because they have their own problems, their own families to nurture and their own lives.

K-12 (A Door TO Successful Learning in Enhancing of EDUCATION)
By: CECILIA R. ALVAREZ
HT-I CATALANACAN ES
Education is not an obligation a student must fulfill but rather it is an opportunity a student must grab and hold on to. Those years in school they had spent are just numbers to count, however, the learning they graspis something to look back and thank for. Adding a year or so in Philippine Education is not a burden to complain for but rather it is a chance for our country to cope with the demand of the world and be able to provide students the opportunity to graduate high school with high appraisal.
Philippine Education is set to the standards alike to the foreign countries since our country aims to compete efficiently and internationally through students with developed and advanced learning. K-12 is a program that amends that all students must enter kindergarten before enrolling to grade one. And the high school education will have grade 7.
K-12 also helps the students who are unable to enroll to college to acquire a job easily since those students partake within the K-12. That is, high school graduates would not be dishonored anymore and there will be more opportunities and consideration for a job position.
K-12 serves to be the country’s break – through to global competitiveness and it only requires determined students and teachers – collaboration of hard work which is the most important.
In every step we take, we must take it from the heart and be prepared for what changes “beyond” has made for us. Remember that only those minds that is set appreciates what lies ahead and treasures them.

The greatest loss of all for a child is the death of a parent. But the loss of other family members can cause just as much as suffering. Bereavement, the lost of a loveone through death , is a traumatic experience for people of all ages.Child psychologists say that the children as young as three and four seem able to mourn the loss of a love one. However, these young ones have a short “sadness pain”so they need to experience their grief inn small doses. This means they will cry for a while then will want to play. Its difficult for them to intense sadness or anger-tht is why it is hard for them to mourn.
The best that the teachers can do as one of our responsible as counselor in our students is to assist them in comforting and accepting death. This means the student’s grief must be brought to the surface.an approach can be to encourage children to cry and their grief and talk out their thoughts and feelings for the deceased. Allow the students to expree their sorrow, anger, guilt, rerets and memories regarding the passing of love oned. Finally, helpstudents to cope with loss by talking t o them about your belief in God and his sustaining grace especially in times like these.Believing that one day Jesus comes, one can rejoin the deceased and reunite as a family again gives one great source of comfort and make loss more bearable.

What to do in student’s inappropriate behavior
By: ALONA A. GASCON

A young student’s inappropriate behavior much of it, is age-related. In other words, the behavior is really not inappropriate or it can be explained, if you consider the child stage of development taken during our college degree as one of our topic in child psychology. Knowing this will help the teachers of primary level become more understanding disciplinarians. I will attempt to answer some age-related question that teachers have concerning their students .Why is that my students insist on doing the things that upset their classmate the most?
One of the fundamental laws of parenthood is if children know what gets your goat, they’ll get it..So being the second parents of our students you must know that fundamental law. For the most part , children enjoy pleasing adults. But at time the young students misbehave to get your attention, to win a proper struggle , or just to reap the sweet stage of revenge , When the students know what really upset you , it gives them ammunisation to get back at you when they’re angry.
Typical “ goat getting behavior” usually are these things that we have very little control over, such as saying”dirty” words, whining, lying, sassing, being lazy or misbehaving when you are too involved to take action.Undue attention to these behavior is rewarding and its exactly what a child’s wants.
Therefore, react in a calm , matter of fact way.Be firm . explain that behavior is forbidden and let them know the consequences of a repeat performance. Then move on .dont dwell on the misbehavior .in other words don’t let them know what really gets your goat…

GET A DOT!
Make sure the space you choose is comfortable and well-lit. It also helps to make sure your child's reading materials are nearby and accessible. A bookcase, or shelf on one of your bookcases works well. Make sure your child's reading materials are readily accessible. Taking the time to create a special spot for the reading activity and their reading materials elevates its importance. Children will see that you value reading and this will speak volumes, especially if you choose to read for your own enjoyment in the "special spot."
Give Time for Reading!
Today, many families seem to struggle with their schedules. Therefore, if reading with your children is a priority, then time must be set aside on a regular basis. Children should see that reading is as important to your family as eating a meal together or enjoying a favorite television show. Read something aloud after dinner and then discuss it. Set a regular bedtime and build in 15 minutes for reading. Chances are that you can fit reading into your busy schedule…and thoroughly enjoy the time you spend with your children.
Read harder!
Reading is a fun activity for children of all ages, and a great way to spend special time with your child. It is also one of the best ways to motivate even the most reluctant reader. You can buddy-read where you take turns reading a paragraph or a page. Make sure you leave ample time for asking and answering questions. Also it's fun for children to predict what is going to happen, and then as the story advances, to see if they were correct. It's also important to talk about how the characters are feeling or why they may have behaved as they did. Many times if a child is having a problem, finding a book that contains a problem is a great spring board for discussion. Don't hesitate to select books over your child's reading level. Children can handle the higher vocabulary and sentence structure when the material is being read aloud. With you as a guide it's also a terrific way to expose them to new words and more complex ideas.
Work Within Their likes
One of the easiest ways to get children involved in reading is to select a topic that is of special interest to them. If children are involved in sports or have a special hobby, that might be a great place to start selecting books. Reading books that have locations that you have visited or plan to visit will also have an appeal. Look for genres that children seem eager to explore. Do they love mysteries or science fiction? Are they fascinated with animals or gardens? If your child is young, which books do they ask you to read over and over again? Look for more like them. Don't forget about non-fiction. Don't be afraid to read them together. There isn't any law that says only story books can be read aloud.
Explore Different Genres!
Sometimes children get stuck in one genre. If children enjoy mysteries, they sometimes will read nothing else. Working together offers a great way for a parent or teacher to explore different genres in literature. Adventure books are always a hit as are mysteries! Poetry, science fiction, historical fiction, animal stories, etc., all allow your child exposure not only to varied subject matter, but different writing styles as well!
Include Happy Activities
If you want to spice up a few activities, how about trying audio books? Stories offer up many different settings and often times the author uses very specific places. How about a field trip to a location your child has recently read about? Reading charts logging the number of books a child has read is sometimes a great incentive and the chart becomes a showplace for family and friends.
Some other great places to explore are second-hand stores, used book stores and garage sales. Many terrific treasures can be found, and all three are a very inexpensive way to build a child's library, as well as your own.
Become the best Model for Reading
Reading is one of the most important and impressionable activities that parents can do in front of their children. If a child sees how much you enjoy and value reading, they are much more likely to become interested in books. To set a good example, read every day, with your child and to yourself. Keep reading materials handy. Make it possible to read any time, anywhere. Bring books everywhere…. to grandma's house, to the doctor, on vacation. Take them anywhere you might expect to be waiting for awhile. Compare the style of one author with another author….discuss the illustrations. Become a frequent visitor at the library.
Giving the love of reading… the love of literature… is one of the greatest gifts a parent or a teacher can give to a child. The ability to read and comprehend is often one of the deciding factors for success in the workplace. When you motivate your child to read, you also motivate them to learn. Success in their educational experience is very dependent on the self-motivation of the student. Being a willing and enthusiastic reader and learner will serve a child well all through their life.
