Plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and landscaping are some of the help that you can offer.
The department of Education launched the National School maintenance week or Brigada Eskwela led by Secretary Dr. Armin Luistro. It is a nationwide voluntary effort of all DepEd employees, barangay officials, different organization both private and public, parents and students to do the clean-up and repairs in public school to prepare the facilities for the school opening.
This said activity is a school maintenance program that encourages every individual to share their skills that will help the school ready for the learners.
This year the Brigada Eskwela started on May 19 to 24. On the first day, the School-division superintended lead motorcades and civic parades to help call for support and instil public awareness to the project.
The 36 schools of the Division of Science City took action in repairing the damaged chairs, tables, windows, and other school facilities.
The practices learned were resourcefulness, “bayanihan”
spirit among the people in the community, volunteerism and
building good rapport to the stakeholders, government and
non-government organization.
The activity also proved that the poverty can’t hinder
the upliftment and achievement of quality education.
There must be allocated funds for the implementation of
the program especially for the major repairs of the
physical facilities of the school. Strong communication
with the stakeholder, government and non-government
organization is highly recommended.

Beyond the Hands of a Bully

Unfortunately, teasing is often part of growing up — almost every child experiences it. But it isn't always as innoxiously as it seems. Words can painful. Teasing becomes bullying when it is repetitive or when there is a conscious intent to hurt another child. It can be verbal bullying like making threats, name-calling. Another one is psychological bullying like excluding children from their play, spreading rumors. Lastly, physical bullying like hitting, pushing, taking a child's possessions.
According to StopBullyingPH, every year almost half million experience bullying, it can be mental, physical, or emotional. It can be done online, over the phone, or in person. Bullying often occurs because the bully's basic human needs for meaning, connectedness, recognition and autonomy go unmet.
Bullying behavior is ubiquitous throughout the world and it cuts across socio-economic, racial/ethnic, and cultural lines. Researchers estimate that 20 to 30 percent of school-age children are involved in bullying incidents, as either perpetrators or victims. Bullying can begin as early as preschool and intensify during transitional stages, such as starting school in elementary to secondary grades.
Victims of bullying are often shy and tend to be physically weaker than their peers. They may also have low self-esteem and poor social skills, which makes it hard for them to stand up for themselves. Bullies consider these children safe targets because they usually don't retaliate.
If your child is the victim of bullying, he may suffer physically and emotionally, and his schoolwork will likely show it. Grades drop because, instead of listening to the teacher, kids are wondering what they did wrong and whether anyone will sit with them at lunch. If bullying persists, they may be afraid to go to school. Problems with low self-esteem and depression can last into adulthood and interfere with personal and professional lives.
As of September 2013, President Aquino had signed the Republic Act 10627 or the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013. Under the law, all elementary and secondary schools should have policies to obviate bullying wherein all parents, teachers, and guardians have given their copies.
With this Act, any forms of bullying are strictly prohibited in school, in any school-related actions, and in online or using information technology.
Those who will be proven guilty of bullying will be charged while the whistleblower will be kept confidential.
According to Tolerance.Org, here are some things to do if you are bullied:
Reach Out
Tell an adult. Sometimes you may have to tell more than one trusted adult.
Ask your friends to help you. There is safety in numbers.
Practice what to say the next time you're bullied with your parents, teachers or friends.
Be Cool in the Moment
Stay calm and confident. Don't show the bully that you're sad or mad.
Ignore the bully and walk away.
Remember: Fighting back can make bullying worse.
Change the School Community
Work with others to stop bully behavior; your whole school will benefit.
Remember: A lot of kids have to cope with bullying. You are not alone. No one deserves to be bullied.
Remember, bullying is trending today. You should help. Be part of the change. Change someone’s life. Stop bullying.

BEWARE OF BULLIES

Bullying is a quarrelsome that terrorizes or threatens those weaker than him, is an old-age practice which is often ignored and unresolved. Nowadays, lot of helpless and hopeless children continue to victim of bullying is schools, in their community and later in social media.
The Anti-bullying with the hope of breaking the vicious cycle and creating a Child-friendly School environment was conceptualized by Sen. Antonio F. Trillanes,IV and AKO BIKOL (AKS) Partylist Rep. led by Cong. Rodel Batocabe may now hope to see an end to bullying victims. They pointed out that bullying is an International written, verbal or physical abuse that harms students or damages their properties; interferes with student’s educations; threatens the educational environment; and disrupts the orderly operation of the school.
House Bill 2361 or the Anti-Bullying Act criminalizes bullying and cyber-bullying and penalizes bullies who are minors (below 18) and their parents. Penalties include public reprimand in the school, 2-6 months of mandatory counseling, suspension or expulsion for those who commit a series of bullying incidents and mandatory rehabilitation in an institution for juvenile delinquents for six months to one year for bullying with violence.
Hence, in this particular bill, parents or guardians of bully will also be held liable and will be required to pay the victim damages from Php.10,000.00-Php.100,000.00 and two to six months mandatory counseling with their child.
Children should not deal with bullies by themselves; to simply tell them to ignore the problem is ineffective. To encourage them to “stand-up for themselves and fight” is equally as ineffective and maybe dangerous.
There are many effective ways for dealing with bullies. One of the most effective ways is to avoid the confrontation. This is not a sign of weakness rather this is just good common sense. Obviously, not every bullying situation is similar and walking away may not be an option.
But the best solution to stop bullying in school is to educate and form the core values in children during formative years. “Curbing violence against children should begin at home. Parents should be partners in putting an end to the child’s bullying behavior. Parents must recognize that their child is a bully and help him change his negative behavior to others. They should consider bullying as a serious matter and hence should not be treated lightly”, said Sen. Trillanes. Therefore, we must be aware and have an immediate action in teaching our youngsters the good conduct so that the tears and agony will be voided instead happiness and laughter in their innocent smiles will be painted in their faces.

It’s not true that all thieves lurk in dark streets and corners; somehow it may be you that just sit in front of their monitor, taking their time copying, pasting, and printing.
Seems like the internet is a great source of unlimited information but was left out of the term “intellectual property” to a higher level. Thanks to the convenience of the internet. Slackers now have the full privilege by just pressing ctrl+a, ctrl+v, and ctrl+v and voila, it is done! They now have an impressive research papers that is supposedly an “original composition” of someone’s work.
For some of us, copying and pasting seems like a norma stuff at all and should not be concerned at all. But don’t you think that stealing someone else’s idea seems to be unfair for the writer itself?
For the teachers, internet plagiarism has been a problem because it seems too difficult to locate the origin of the material. And because of it, one the internet company had developed an aid which is a system to detect plagiarized material from the internet. All the teachers have to simply just upload the soft copy of the material which searches for the similarities to the material from being copied all over the world. The teachers will receive an “originality report” with a few days. Teachers utilized this new technology, few teachers in high school have their students submit their papers on flash drives and on paper.
The main concern is to know if their entire paper has plagiarized parts. Internet sites like HomeoworkHub.com and SchoolSucks.com are powerhouse of cheating and pirated papers. “Paper mills” like these, achieve fame and notoriety among slackers everywhere.
In addition to such rampant “copy-and-paste plagiarism”, most teachers agree that students are not aware that copying someone else’s work from the internet is a form of robbery. That is why the WordCheck had made a program wherein we can assert that one’s paperwork is an original composition as well as to protect the intellectual property for the online thieves.
You will never know … the thieves are out there, they might not be stealing banks or wearing black masks.
Look out and you will never know.

Fraternities and sororities comes from the Latin words frater and soror, meaning "brother" and "sister" respectively are fraternal social organizations for undergraduate students. In English, the term refers mainly to such organizations at colleges and universities in North America, although it is also applied to analogous European groups also known as corporations. Similar, but less common, organizations also exist for secondary school students. In modern usage, the term "Greek letter organization" is often synonymous with the terms "fraternity" and "sorority".
Fraternities and sororities exist for high school students as well as college students. Like their college counterparts, most have Greek letter names. Although there were countless local high school fraternities and sororities with only one or two chapters, many secondary fraternities founded in the nineteenth and twentieth century in the United States grew into national organizations with a highly evolved governing structure and regularly chartered chapters in multiple regions. Many of the local chapters of these national fraternities were not tied to (or affiliated with) individual high schools but were instead area based, often drawing membership from multiple high schools in a given area.
High school fraternities and sororities were inspired by and modeled after Greek-letter organizations which became prevalent in North American colleges and universities during the nineteenth century (Owen 492). In some respects these fraternities and sororities are designed to better prepare individuals for college level fraternities. The first known high school fraternity was Torch and Dagger in Council Bluffs, Iowa, founded in 1859. This organization existed with lapses from 1861 to 1866 and again from 1880 to 1893. In 1900 it was renamed Omega Eta Tau and began expanding nationally. Gamma Sigma was organized in October 1869 at Brockport Normal School (then a high school level institution, but now a college). Alpha Zeta came into existence at the Union Classical Institute in Schenectady, New York (associated with Union College, home of the college fraternity movement) on December 8, 1869, Alpha Phi followed one year later at the Colgate Academy (connected with Colgate University) and Pi Phi was founded in 1878 at Rochester Free Academy (associated with University of Rochester). Pi Phi spread to more than 110 chapters before lapsing into only alumni chapters in the 1980s. Most of the American secondary fraternities that were successful in the twentieth century had national governing bodies, produced regular publications and convened in regular (often annual) national conventions. They also each possessed a secret ritual and handshake and a Greek-letter name which, like college fraternities was usually derived from the abbreviation of a secret Greek motto. These groups were identified by a coat-of-arms and members wore distinctive fraternity badges or pins.
Fraternities/Sororities come from a long history of brotherhood and sisterhood. It was present as early as 1776 in the North American region the expanded globally with different names derived from Greek alphabets. Fraternities in the Philippines was deeply influenced by freemasonry fraternity and odd fellows fraternity, both are ancient fraternal organizations that originated in England on or before the year 1700's.
Ancient masonry reached the Philippines during the Spanish era, however, most of its members were only the elite. American Odd fellows, on the other hand, reached the Philippines in the year 1872 during the Spanish-American war and was largely responsible for the petty insurrection the following year. A number of Filipino soldiers who are allies of the Americans became members.. Later, college fraternities began to form especially when American
Education (philosophy) reached our shores. State Universities where the first to enjoy Greek Life - UP - in which was the birth of the first original Filipino Greek Letter Fraternity, Upsilon Sigma Phi (1918).
